- The trout are no longer alevin
- Their yolk sac has been completely consumed and the trout are now called "Fry"
- Young trout at the fry stage swim actively at all levels in the tank. They no longer lie only on the bottom
- They now require food
- Rather than feed them pellets, we have opted to release the trout fry so that they begin feeding on natural foods.
- Observation of the fry shows students that the young trout now truly resemble "fish"
- The colours and patterns that distinguish brook trout are now visible
- All fins can be seen
- Adult trout feed on insects, smaller fish and "bugs"
- Most of those are too large for trout fry
- Trout fry feed on tiny stuff - 2 examples are shown
- The movement of trout is discussed and the role of the different fins is outlined
